A. Shaw has forwarded two documents (merely a digression from his intended lecture), to show the nature of this Museum and the obligations under which it lies to Government. The Director has received without hesitation a munificent gift of Chinese Manufactures from Mr. Murray, late chief street commissioner in Peking, who is to return to the East, to carry further his study of the people and their works, and to bring back to this Country knowledge of the resources available to Great Britain.
Since his return to this Country, he has made our manufactures his special study in the Laboratory of this Museum under my superintendance, and would not fail, if appointed to the vacant Office, to enrich all the Collections of this Museum, with important illustrations of Chinese Art.
I have claims, waiting on you. I will excuse my importunity on the ground of public duty.
I have the honour to be,
